CENTENNIAL UPDATE

One thing that we have learnt from Covid is that “change is constant“.  Unfortunately it has been decided to postpone the 100th Birthday Bash to a date yet to be determined.  It may be on the same day as the Premiers first home game of the season, so watch this space!

The CENTENNIAL SHIELD will adorn the clubrooms in mid-March for two months and it will include the supporters’ names that we have received by the end of this month.  That being said, now is the perfect time to get your family's name on our stunning shield.  $100 donation payments can be made directly into the clubs bank account 12-3063-0200193-00 with your name and shield as a reference or you can add this to the cart when completing your registration for our Centennial events.

On the 14th May it will be taken away in order to inscribe the balance of the supporters’ names, then the shield will be permanently placed back in the clubrooms and right in time for the Queen’s Birthday Weekend celebrations.

Book a guaranteed table-place at the CENTENNIAL DINNER to be held in the Grand Hall Lounge on the 5th floor of the North Stand at EDEN PARK on Friday 3rd June.  Tables of ten are available until 31st March at $110 per head.  Arrange your group / old team members and nominate your table-captain, who will be responsible for forwarding your ticket-money.  The price per ticket for April and May bookings will be $120 per head.  The guest-speaker will be confirmed soon. The special Prems’ playing jerseys will be auctioned along with other autographed rugby memorabilia on this spectacular evening whilst we enjoy a beautiful dinner.

Saturday 4th is CENTENNIAL GAME DAY.  A special mix ‘n mingle after-match is planned. An occasion to reminisce over a specially named beer.  Our opposition should be known in time for our next newsletter.

Sunday 5th is GOLDEN OLDIES DAY and BBQ.  Depending on the school and club draws, a possible MAGS v EDEN match will be played as well as it is their centennial year also, plus the 100th year that the Gallaher Shield is being played for!!

Please register your interest for our Centennial events, along with your contact details now on our CENTENNIAL REGISTRATION form.

A big year ahead and plenty to celebrate.

Graeme Dryland

Centennial Committee Chairman

February 2022

As an introduction to the mammoth task of rolling out a centennial celebration, it's time to introduce you to our Centennial Committee. The committee have met several times over the past fifteen months, preparing for our celebrations in 2022.  All upcoming communications will be made through our Eden Rugby websiteFacebook and newsletter.

What's planned...?

February 2022 is 100 years on from the formation of Eden Rugby Club in 1922.  A 100th birthday party will be held at the clubrooms on Saturday 26th February.  All past and present members are invited to this free event.  There will be a BBQ, birthday cake and subsidised drinks.  We will have centennial merchandise for sale and registrations for the main event, 100 days later over Queen’s Birthday Weekend, can also be made on this day.

Queen's Birthday Weekend Centennial Celebrations:

Friday 3rd June:  Centennial Dinner with a renowned guest speaker and auctions of the special Premier’s Centennial playing jerseys

Saturday 4th June:  Club rugby, followed by a special after-match function

Sunday 5th June:  A mini Golden Oldies tournament; BBQ and closing formalities

All events are held at the clubrooms

We are not the only ones in our neighbourhood reaching this golden milestone.  Kowhai Intermediate and Mt Albert Grammar School will also celebrate their 100th years in 2022 as well.  With this being said we are working on the logistics of playing either the MAGS 1st XV or their 1R team over the weekend.  The Friday dinner will be the only charged event. This "at-cost" charge is yet to be determined, but it will have to be limited to 250 pax.  Registration details will be available next month, so act quickly, so as not to miss out.

A $10,000 fundraiser is currently being prepared.  A beautiful piece of swamp Kauri is being made into a large "Centennial Shield" by Eden Senior squad, Pepa and Paulo.  This stunning piece will be hung in the clubrooms.  We are seeking at least 100 donors of $100 and those names will be inscribed on this shield.  This will be a permanent reminder of our most staunch supporters.  Individuals $100 and Companies $115 (incl GST), see any centennial committee member if you interested.  It’s incidental that the shield is made from swamp Kauri, as Gribblehirst Park used to be called Cabbage Tree swamp.

A big thank you for the work, so far in the preparation of our 100th celebration.

Steve Thomson from BRANDSPANK for all the artwork-visuals.

Jamal Thompson from DYNASTY SPORT for the merchandice range.

Phil Goodwin  from WESTPRINT for the advertising bill-board and clubroom banner.

Pepa Sale and Paulo Sasulu for the making of the swamp-kauri Centennial Shield.

Eugene Giacon from PRESSPRINT for the advertising beer-coasters.
